Time to make a big deal out of something small! "If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good." - Dr. Seuss
Get up close and personal with these macro photography ideas. Before you know it you'll be macro photographing everything you can lay your hands on just to see how it turns out. Macro photography is a lot more detailed if you have a macro lens, but it's not impossible with a normal DSLR (most point and shoot cameras also have a macro mode setting).
Sometimes we plan photographs and sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time, ready to shoot. Insects could you either way, if you have children with silk worms or an ant farm you can plan ahead, if not, you need to be ready the next time a lady bug lands close to you. Alternatively if you have botanical gardens nearby, you are bound to find some bugs there (butterflies are insects too).
Taking macro shots of plants brings out something in the plant we may not have noticed before, which is what makes it fun. Find some leaves, flowers, fruits or anything from a plant, and take some macro shots. When you are finished, get people to guess what it is. (I don't really know what the one above is - just in case you were wondering - it fell off a tree when I was on an island, I suppose it's a fruit of some kind...)
Coffee Beans are great to practice macro photography. The topic here though, is coffee, so use your imagination. Take a macro shot of anything coffee related.
Most of us drink coffee (sometimes too much of it) so it shouldn't be too hard to get your hands on some!
